’s artistic practice weaves together biomythological narratives with a critique of production conditions and power relations. Through the female gaze, it focuses on socio-political constructions of identities by examining class structures and the accompanying identity shift as a consequence of being on the run. Stephanie Rizaj's work ranges from performative sculptures to videos and site-specific installations in which she reproduces everyday objects and combines them with found materials. Thereby it reflects on the relationship between body, labor, and architecture through text, material, and space, which can be read both linearly and anachronistically.
Rizaj has exhibited work nationally and internationally in various exhibitions and festivals, including Manifesta 13 Marseille (FR), Loop Barcelona, (ES), Stedelijk Museum (NL), Diagonale (AT) or Dokufest (XK). Amongst other prizes, she has been awarded the Theodor Körner Prize (AT).
